Some of my roosters wont even fly up at the flying pen. Your inputs are very much appreciated. Maybe the poles are too high? Putting flypens a few feet from eachother will also encourage cocks to fly.
If they see the cock next to them going up they will also want to go up. Rotation is key to keeping cocks from going stale on you.
You rotate the cocks often and they will keep busy. Theres other things you can do like different litter for the pens introducing hens. To many things to mention just find a rhythm that works for you and your fowl and they will keep themselves fresh happy and healthy jmo.
Yunke liked this post. Cover the 4 sides of your flypen leg-high. Let a hen roam around. I'll add a little advice, or food for thought in the other direction. Everytime a rooster flys up, he has to fly down. Over time, that has a toll on his feet, legs, and most important his knee joints, which does effect the cutting of a rooster.
I've had roosters come from a stag pen, or what you would call a hardening pen in P. I, and break 6' high, and they've never seen a flypen. I'm not saying flypens are bad, or don't have a use, just giving you something to think about.
