Android apps written in native code i. This is because native code is directly compiled into the machine instructions for the specific architecture as opposed to Kotlin or Java apps which execute on the Android Runtime ART. In order to test your app via Android Emulator running on an xbased computer, you need a different version for x86 CPU. Until now, the only resolution to this problem was to either use a physical Android device or install emulator images with full ARM emulation for x86 CPUs.
The latter option is performance-intensive and cannot take full advantage of the hardware acceleration and CPU virtualization that x86 CPUs offer. These system images utilize ABIs application binary interfaces that intermediate between apps written in different languages or between apps and the operating system. The ARM instructions within the ARM binary are exclusively translated to x86 while the remaining of the code continues to be executed in x Due to this isolation of ARM binaries, the process is less performance-intensive and runs even on low-level hardware.
This will spur support for more Android targeted apps on a variety of Chromebooks. Want more posts like this delivered to your inbox? Enter your email to be subscribed to our newsletter. For instance, Android developers can debug their apps right onto their desktop, gamers can enjoy Android-specific games on a larger screen and the list goes on.
The problem with Android emulators is that a lot of them are finicky and tend to not work as advertised. All of these apps should work on Windows 7, 8, 8.
Best Android Emulators for Windows in 1. Bluestacks BlueStacks is undoubtedly one of the best Android emulators that you can find on Windows. It not only covers gaming but as a general user, if you want to enjoy Android apps on Windows PC then BlueStacks is a great emulator at your disposal.
Over the years, it has gone through many refinements and the current BlueStacks is based on Android 7. So the issue of compatibility is solved with BlueStacks. Further, to provide a seamless Android emulation on Windows, BlueStacks has partnered with Samsung to bring the Galaxy Store on its platform.
The company claims that BlueStacks is 6X more powerful than standard Android phones out there. On top of that, it offers a range of features like multi-instance, key-mapping and an AI-based gaming engine for superior performance. All in all, if you are looking for the best Android emulator on Windows then BlueStacks surely comes at the top.
It is based on Android Lollipop 5. But one factor where Nox Player truly scores over BlueStacks is the ability to get root access.
But on Nox Player, you simply have to enable a toggle in the settings, and poof! It is a tough task to name a single or even a couple of features considering that MEmu comes loaded with a ton of useful features.
One of the most prominent features of the emulator is the fact that it supports both Intel and AMD CPUs which is great from a compatibility point of view. As astonishing as it may sound, but it is a feature not available on many Android emulators out there. Apart from that, the emulator comes with the ability to run multiple instances of apps and Android versions at once.
Furthermore, the software is based on Android Nougat 7. It also allows you to have three different windows for all three Android versions. What more can you ask for?To ensure you have the latest version, check the SDK Manager for updates. For Android Emulator versions prior to For details of bugs fixed in each release, see the Android Studio release updates blog.
If you were previously unable to use the Android Emulator because your app depended on ARM binaries, you can now use the Android 9 x86 system image or any Android 11 system image to run your app — it is no longer necessary to download a specific system image to run ARM binaries. These Android 9 and Android 11 system images support ARM by default and provide dramatically improved performance when compared to those with full ARM emulation.
If you are using Windows bit, you cannot upgrade to version This update continues our work on the Project Marble initiative that was announced at the Android Developer Summit in November The following sections describe the Project Marble improvements that are included with this update:.
Starting with version This option is automatically disabled whenever the emulator is restarted. If you are using the command line, you can also enable host audio using the -allow-host-audio option, and you can use the following ADB commands to turn host audio data on or off, respectively:.
You can use headless builds to help you set up the emulator for Docker and continuous integration CI workflows. On Linux, headless builds no longer include the pulseaudio or libX11 libraries. The system-dependent shared libraries that are not packaged with the emulator has been reduced to the following list:. To address CPU usage, the emulator now runs the following ADB commands on a cold boot after it receives a boot complete signal:.
This update also includes the following general improvements that are part of the Project Marble initiative:. This update also includes the following general fixes that are part of the Project Marble initiative:.

This is addressed in an upcoming HAXM update.
7 Best Android Emulators for Windows You Can Use
Proudly published with Ghost. Branding and design by Cinder Design Co. I have been a mobile developer for 7 years now and since the day I started one of my largest complaints has been the Android emulator. From the very start we had just ARM emulators that were a complete joke to work with as they moved at a snail's pace. From there a bunch of companies attempted to fix the problem by using custom built solutions on top of Virtual Box or Hyper-V. Google has done a lot of work in the last few years to improve the Android emulators with Quick Boot, more customization and hardware support, but being able to run them fast has still been a pain point.
This actually works amazing on macOS as every device essentially has an Intel chip and doesn't have conflicts with a core virtualization engine hypervisor. If you are like me and develop every day on a Windows machine then you know that HAXM is great, but only if you have the ideal setup:. In the Windows April Update build something magical happened.
This means that for the first time if you have an AMD Processor, have Hyper-V on, or wanted to do Docker work you can run Android emulators pretty fast. Then just turn on Hyper-V and the Windows Hypervisor Platform if you don't see this and are on October's update don't worry it is now bundled into Hyper-V itself. After a quick reboot, Hyper-V is ready to roll on your machine and the emulators should boot up pretty quick. There is a crazy amount of configurations out there of Windows PCs and I am sure they would be interested to know if you are experiencing super slow emulators after everything is enabled so let them know on the Visual Studio Developer Community.
